Osnovna škola "Ljubo Babić" Jastrebarsko

Our school got its name after Ljubo Babić, a famous Croatian painter, an art historian, an art teacher, an illustrator, a stage des igner who was born in Jastrebarsko on 14th June 1890.

Elementary school“Ljubo Babić“ has got around 1100 students in 60 classes.

Along with main school there are also 8 village schools in Cvetković, Domagović, Čeglje, Desinec, Petrovina, Plešivica, Sveta  Jana and Volavje.

Students cooperative“ Grozdek“ has been active since 2002 and it gathers different sections such as embroidery, ceramics and bee-keeping. It has also got an ethno collection. Its members make jewelry and they are engaged in cottage industry. The main aim of students cooperative“ Grozdek“ is to teach children how to be practical, to promote tradition, homeland and to take care of the environment.

There is also a drama group“ Ivana Brlić Mažuranić“  in our school. This group cooperates with local theatre in Jastrebarsko. Drama group “ Ivana Brlić Mažuranić“ celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2008. Its play “ Petar Pan“ was seen by 7000 people.

The only elementary school in Jastrebarsko is a modern school, it has neat environment and pleasant indoor places. That is why it has got a status of the International Eco-school since 2006.

We are especially proud of the fact that a programme of extanded stay for the first and second grade students has started in local school Cvetković since school year 2008/ 2009.
